The Peterborough lido summer solstice sunrise swim.

It’s that time of year again when the Peterborough lido hosts their annual summer solstice sunrise swim. This has always been a mandatory event on my swimming calendar and this year was no exception.
As always Jemma and her staff went the extra mile to make this a fantastic event, and as always, it proved extremely popular with the usual high attendance.
As a volunteer, it was dark when I arrived early to help set up, but even at that hour it wasn’t long before the orderly queue started to form with people waiting in anticipation for the doors to open at 4.00am.
The pool filled up quickly and in no time at all, the lane swimmers were doing their laps and the main pool was bustling with casual swimmers enjoying the lovely warm water in the tranquil surroundings and architecture of this fantastic facility. This was followed up by a mobile sauna and the excellent food on offer from the cafe.
Several people took to the upper terrace hoping to catch the Sunrise at 4.35am BST, but sadly, on this occasion it was obscured for the most part by the patchy cloud cover. Nevertheless it was an ideal photo opportunity for a picture of the beautiful cathedral in the backdrop of our wonderful lido.
