This morning March 27 the Lido opened for the Friends of the Lido’s spring pre-opening swim. Despite today’s unseasonal weather after the warm days of last week 60 of the Friends of the Lido arrived eager for their first swim of the season.
The Peterborough Telegraph press photographer was there to record the traditional opening day dunking of the Mayor. This year the honour of being dunked, instead of the Mayor, went to the leader the council Dr Shabina Qayyum along with Councillor Zameer Ali. Her Worship the Mayor, Mrs Judy Fox, elected to do the pushing In ceremony in this, the lido’s 90th year. Councillor Qayyum and Councillor Ali took it all in good part.
The cafe was open and showcasing its new range of food with tasters available. I sampled some of the food on offer and I with everyone else seemed to be approving the new menu, although the old faithfuls, of burgers and chips, will still available.
The Friends of Peterborough Lido’s book to celebrate the Lido’s 90 year history and raise funds for the Lido was launch at the FoPL’s AGM last week and was on sale. Costing just £12 it will be available for sale over this opening weekend.

After the weekend the book can be ordered by emailing peterborolidofriends@gmail.com or bought from the Museum after April16th.
