The Spring lido Swimming Season has begun.
by Clare Marshall and Monica Ilett
Good Friday, March 29th 2024, and the new spring season of Lido swimming began. The old weather proverb saying ‘March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb,’ seems to be correct this year. March has been very wet, making preparations to open more difficult. During the pre-opening week, members of the FoPL (Friends of Peterborough Lido) helped with weeding and light maintenance.
Opening day arrived, cool but sunny and a queue of hardy, excited swimmers gathered outside waiting eagerly for the Lido gates to open. The water, sparking in the early morning sunlight, was so inviting and soon rippling with many swimmers. Some, choosing to plough up and down completing lengths of this 50metre pool; whilst others preferred a more relaxed experience and simply enjoyed being back in the pool, meeting up with swim friends for the first time since last season. Everyone clearly ecstatic that the Lido was once again open and looking forward to many more days of swimming in the season ahead. It was certainly well worth the wait since December and a fabulous turn out for the first day of the 2024 season.
A big thank you to all staff and FoPL volunteers for all their hard work preparing the pool for opening.
