Some of you may Have already heard the very sad news that Bronwen passed away early on Friday 5th March, after a long struggle with cancer.
Bronwen was one of Peterborough’s lido’s most enthusiastic supporters, having swum there ever since her childhood, and was also quite an expert on other lidos around the country, visiting and swimming in many of them during her travels. She would often regale us with tales of our lido in years gone by, and share her vast collection of black and white photographs. Even when she was unable to swim during her illness, Bronwen always attended the opening events and contributed to the Friends, and was often to be seen sitting at the side of the pool watching others enjoy the pool she loved.
Bronwen would have loved to have heard the recent news regarding the opening of our lido this year, and to know that its future lies in such enthusiastic hands following the last awful year of lockdown and uncertainty. This year’s opening certainly won’t be the same without her, and the thoughts of the Friends Committee and many other members of the lido old guard are with Bronwen’s husband, her son, and two daughters, one of whom has maintained her mum’s passion for the lido.
Ruth has been grateful to receive many kind messages of support from friends of the lido.
